The Student Leadership Academy (SLA)

The Student Leadership Academy (SLA) is an interprofessional leadership programme, which is designed to encourage and support students to develop and apply leadership qualities to their own personal, professional and organizational context, with direct relevance to future employers.

First year students from all pre-registration health and social care programmes are invited to apply and, from this pool, 30-35 students will be selected. The focus is not on a leadership title or role but on students gaining insight into their own leadership approach and developing the confidence to lead through inspiring, influencing and supporting others.

Alongside ‘theory bursts’ and interactive activities, inspirational leaders and employers from health and social care organisations will be invited to share stories of their ‘leadership stories’ because storytelling is a powerful tool that captures and engages attention. Student feedback include: 'Great time learning from each of the speakers', 'great programme – inspirational speakers' and 'Engaging talks especially the leadership journeys.'
