Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?
As a Chevening Scholar, I had the chance to choose between three universities in the UK to pursue my master’s degree. However, I chose Swansea University for a couple of reasons. First, the university’s modules in Data Science perfectly match my career goals, from machine learning, and visualization, to big data and data mining. Second, the range of activities and opportunities that are available is amazing, providing international students with an excellent learning environment. Third, the facilities and equipment are more advanced, which supports the students with their studies.

Can you tell us about your course and what you enjoy the most?
MSc Data Science at Swansea University covers a range of topics that I am very interested in. What I enjoy most about my course is the practical approach to learning; we frequently work on real-world datasets and projects that prepare us for actual industry challenges. The faculty’s dedication to ensuring we grasp both theoretical and practical aspects of data science has been immensely beneficial. Moreover, lab sessions were one of the most enjoyable learning experiences because I learned a lot from the staff and their continuous support.

What are your three favourite things about Swansea?
First, the natural beauty of Swansea is unmatched, mainly the landscapes and beaches. Second, the people in Swansea are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made settling in much easier than I anticipated. Lastly, the city has a diverse and supportive community that helped me as a Muslim to practice my religion more conveniently. Worth mentioning that the availability of mosques and halal restaurants was particularly helpful in this regard.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other international students?
Absolutely! I would recommend Swansea University to other international students. The university not only provides a solid academic foundation but also offers a supportive and inclusive community. The staff and fellow students are very helpful, making it easier to adapt to a new culture and education system. Additionally, the university’s efforts in hosting various international events help in making connections and understanding diverse global perspectives, which is crucial for personal and professional growth.
